NHAI stopped cash payments at national highway toll plazas from 10 April 2026: you pay by FASTag or UPI. At first this did not apply in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, West Bengal and Puducherry, where elections were on. GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) OBU (On-Board Unit) is a GPS-based device for satellite tolling. In July 2026 the government said satellite tolling needs further study and is rolling out barrier-free MLFF plazas, which use FASTag, instead.
