A FASTag is a sticker with a chip inside. Once it is torn, peeled off or stuck on a windscreen that has been replaced, it stops reading reliably, and a tag that is not read at the plaza means paying more. The fix is a replacement tag on the same SBI FASTag account.
When you need a replacement
- The tag is torn, bent or peeled off, or was removed from the windscreen.
- The windscreen was replaced and the old tag went with it.
- The tag is lost or stolen: tell SBI straight away so it can be blocked.
- Plazas keep failing to read it even though the balance is fine and the tag is not blacklisted.
If the tag is only low on balance or blacklisted, you may not need a new one; see FASTag blacklisted: causes and fixes.
What happens to your balance
The replacement is issued against your vehicle and your SBI FASTag account, and the old tag is blocked, so it cannot be misused. Your wallet stays with SBI.
What it costs
SBI charges a tag re-issue fee. If you use our help, we add our service charge, and we tell you the full amount on WhatsApp before you pay.
How we handle it
- WhatsApp us at 90420 10180 with the vehicle number and a photo of the old tag if you have it.
- We check the tag status with SBI and tell you the full charge.
- We complete the replacement with SBI and dispatch the new tag the same day; it reaches you in 1–3 working days.
- Fix it inside the windscreen, top centre. A tag kept loose can be blacklisted.
Switching banks instead?
A working tag can now move to another bank without replacement through OneTag; a damaged or blacklisted tag cannot. See OneTag: switch your FASTag bank.
